Nectarine DemoScene Radio Hacked - Will It Ever Return?![]() Submitted by FishGuy876 on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 11:48.
I didn't want to post this message earlier, as I wasn't exactly sure what would happen with the website, but now seems to be a good time to make some posting on it. Last week, Nectarine Radio (http://www.nectarine.fr) was hacked by a lamer script kiddie. They were able to delete everything on the server, including the databases, PHP sources, and over 20k MP3 files. Due to some unfortunate luck from the site owner, they were unable to restore their backups to bring the website back online, and a a result, the project was dead =( Nectarine is a free website that relies on donations, it broadcasts demo scene music over the Internet. These include classic Amiga, C64, Spectrum, Amstrad, Atari, Windows and Macintosh demos from today and the past. I had spent many hours listening to the streams and was able to find many old songs I had either liked, or used the music in my own demos. I was truly devastated to learn the stream had been hacked and deleted. Anyone who understands my computer background should know why this radio station was so important. At first, the owner (Yes) had announced that the hackers had won and that the site was being shut down. After receiving lots of positive emails of reassurance, Yes has decided to set up a revival project to receive donations to cover costs of recovering data from the drives professionally. He also wants to hire someone to professionally code the site and provide regular backups to prevent something like this from happening ever gain. It also means that someone can maintain the site 24/7 instead of the small amount of time that Yes could work on the site. I ask all of you that have any past history in the demoscene or classic computer music scene to please visit http://www.nectarine.fr and make a small donation to the cause using the ChipIn feature. This is the only internet music radio station that does this kind of stream, and it is important that it be allowed to continue. Thank-you. Andy Kellett |
